Yada Gorozaemon Suketake in the snow (aka Yata Goroemon Suketaka)
Series: Seichu gishi shozo  (Portraits of the Faithful Samurai of True Loyalty
Publisher:  Masagoro
1852

A ronin, much admired for his swordsmanship. In the attack he would kill Tsuzuki Jitsuemon, one of Kira’s samurai. In the play, this fight will become one of the highlights of the drama.
In keeping with tradition Kuniyoshi dresses all the ronin in this series with theatrical costuming of black jackets with white triangles, symbolizing “day and night we are ever faithful”, over black and red mail.

Oban Tate-e.  Fine impression, colours, and condition.  Splashed paint (Gofun) for the falling snow.  One of the great designs of this powerful series.
