Tora Gozen was the lover of Soga no Juro (one of the two Soga Brothers, who died while taking revenge on Lord Kuto for their father’s death).  She later took revenge on Kuto’s retainers and then became a nun.  She is considered a heroine of duty and self-sacrifice and figures in a number of Kabuki Plays that involve the Soga Brothers as characters.
